Richmond Chamber of Commerce

Team: Vivien Zhu (CBM), Katie Boller (XD), Kevin Nyugen (ST), Tracy Okafor (AD), Karah Smith (ST)

Problem: Chambers of commerce are an outdated concept married with outdated point of views. The Richmond Chamber realized that business had a new vibe and they had to keep up.

Solution: Bring them up to speed with a refreshed stance and new values.

We reinvigorated their entrepreneurial sprits with a brand essence video.

We introduced a new set of values to consider.

Transparent

It’s impossible to enter a market if you can’t find the front door. If info has to be paywalled, we’ll tell you why. Our members should never feel in the dark and know exactly what their dues pay for and why.

Accountable

We believe members should be accountable to each other and the Chamber should be accountable to the region at large. We must own the consequences of our actions and do our job to the best of our ability.

Introspective and Honest

There's no denying that many would consider our region ‘the south.’ Virginia, especially Richmond (RVA), has a history that precedes it. This plays a hand in who we are today and how we came to be. We must look inward to recognize and reconcile the biases, conditioning, and experiences of past leadership as we move forward.

Audacious and Brave

We want to see a business world others can't fathom because the centuries-old status quo worked in favor of some, not all. The aforementioned values belong to a new era we plan to lead. It will take persistence, failure, humility, and practice — it’s possible and it’s worth it.

Diverse

The beauty of our region is the diversity found in our neighborhoods and workplaces. Differing experiences, education levels, and innovations are beautiful and should be cherished.

Supportive

If our members are not being supported, we serve no purpose. We're fiercely committed to addressing the varying needs of our members with equitable solutions.

Attentive

If we're not doing something right, things need to be put on pause, revisited, reconsidered, and revised. We will create and nurture safe spaces so all voices have input, recognition, and impact.
